Megadeth will bid farewell with a final album on 23 January 2026. An album that will simply be titled ‘Megadeth’, because what else can you say with an album that has to function as an end to four decades as a Monolith of thrash metal? For fans, it will undoubtedly be a wistful goodbye to Dave Mustaine and company. But Mustaine himself reminds us that we should appreciate that Megadeth is ending on their own terms. Before they burn out. Before other circumstances put an end to them, as we have seen happen to other bands so many times before. ‘Megadeth’ is a worthy and virtuoso finale that could not have come at a better time. Alienation and division is ever-present in the world these days, but as a final action, Megadeth calls for unity and solidarity. This also applies to their subsequent farewell tour, where they plan to end in style and have their fans join them for concerts with happiness - not sadness - as the driving force.
