E-raamat: Fighting on two fronts or the adventures of an Estonian during the days of the Soviet Army in Afghanistan

This document provides an overview of the experiences of Alar Nigul (born in Estonia in 1965), who participated in the Afghan war as a conscript in the Soviet Army's special forces from 1984 to 1986. In his memoirs, he describes the conditions and functioning of the former Soviet Army. The narrative provides a personal perspective on the dual challenges that Estonians faced during this difficult period - on the one hand, with the enemy in combat, and on the other hand, with senior military comrades who treated their fellow soldiers cruelly. We learn what happened to Estonian boys who were sent by a foreign power to a senseless war under a foreign flag. The story is gripping, describing the circumstances and combat experiences, and is also somewhat educational reading material not only for military personnel, but recommended for everyone.
