„Island Angels“ is a picture book inspired by Estonian folklore. Muhu is the third largest island in Estonia and known for its abundant and singular folk traditions. The book holds the stories of seven women named “Angel”. Patterns from skirts, sweaters, quilts form the core elements of the book. The line structure of the images is reminiscent of embroidery. A modern comic book section tells the stories of the angels as a good-natured strip. English version of book „Muhu Inglid“ published in 2016 by Post Factum. Translated by Juta Kõvamees-Kitching. Authors: Urmas Viik is an artist and professor at the Estonian Academy of Arts since 2005. Kadri Tüür is a scholar of Estonian literature, semiotician and museum employee, an ecofeminist.
